The birth of jaz

Our Managing Director, Tim, would like to say that he created jaz through careful planning, years of research and a well-developed business plan. Truth is, jaz came about when he was at a crossroad in his career: a good friend suggested he start a design company.

So 18 years ago, with no formal design qualifications and limited computer skills, Tim set off with a second hand Mac and a head full of dreams. What he did have was a passion for art, a desire to be creative and a solid background in printing.

Many people ask us where the name jaz comes from. Tim wanted a short and catchy name for his new venture and racked his brain for the answer. One night he discovered that by combining the first initials of his two children, James and Zoe, he got the word jaz – perfect!

In any business, there are many major milestones and turning points. For us there have been many. Winning our first major contract in 1994, our first gold printing award in 1998, the move to our Nedlands office in 1999 and the move to our current location in Northbridge in 2010, as well as working on many successful campaigns for our clients over the years.

Today, jaz is ever expanding. We now have a team of nine and more Macs than Tim can remember. But what makes jaz the company it is today is its people. We encourage you to get to know us – check out the meet the team section of this site.


Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is simple, and that's to keep it simple!

We hope to make a positive contribution to society through creative design and information architecture - enhancing communication in ways that give us a sense of satisfaction and opportunities for us to reach our potential.

Or put more simply, to provide enrichment through the jaz experience.
